Muturi urges Kenyans to remember Raila for role in shaping modern Kenya

Former Attorney General and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi urged Kenyans to remember the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga not just for his large following, but as a pivotal actor in shaping modern Kenya. Muturi made these remarks after attending a service in Bondo, Odinga's political home, on September 27, 2026. In a statement on X, Muturi emphasized that Raila should be remembered for his contributions to political reform, constitutionalism, multiparty democracy, and inclusive governance.

Odinga's political journey, Muturi said, was closely tied to the Republic's evolution, from the fight for political pluralism to the drafting of the 2010 Constitution and beyond. Muturi highlighted that Raila's influence transcended his traditional base, and his death left a significant void in Kenya's political landscape. The former Attorney General called for a renewed focus on the kind of country Odinga advocated for - one grounded in democracy, justice, unity, and equity.

Meanwhile, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka defended Odinga's legacy in Bondo, accusing unnamed individuals of "stolen" votes and criticizing the government's alleged efforts to silence young human rights defenders and increase taxes. Musyoka also linked Odinga's legacy to Kenya's constitutional reform process, noting that the late opposition leader played a crucial role in the journey that led to the adoption of the 2010 Constitution.
