Miano: Kenya to deploy AI and digital platforms to boost tourism

Kenya is leveraging Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms to enhance its tourism promotion efforts, according to Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano. As travelers increasingly rely on smartphones, digital platforms, and online tools to research destinations and make travel decisions, Miano emphasized the importance of digital technology and AI for Kenya's competitiveness in the tourism sector.

The government is redesigning its approach to showcasing Kenya's tourism offerings, with initiatives like Safari Live, developed in partnership with Wildlife Earth, and Tembea Kenya already expanding the visibility of the country's wildlife and destinations. Miano also highlighted the role of young people in promoting Kenya through digital platforms, citing their creativity, reach, and understanding of online audiences as valuable assets.

The Ministry is collaborating with influencers and digital content creators to promote Kenya's tourism experiences. World Tourism Day 2026, observed on September 27, was marked in Uasin Gishu County under the theme "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism." The week-long celebration showcased the region's tourism potential through sports, culture, conservation, gastronomy, and digital innovation.

Uasin Gishu County's Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok emphasized the region's potential as an emerging tourism circuit, citing Eldoret's city status, improved road infrastructure, and strong sporting heritage as opportunities to develop new tourism experiences.
