Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow dedicates Asian Games squash gold to mother fighting leukaemia

NAGOYA, Sept 27 — During the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow clinched the men's singles squash gold medal and dedicated it to his mother, who is currently struggling with leukemia. The 28-year-old athlete revealed that his mother's long battle with the disease over the past two years has been a source of strength, inspiring him to give his best performance on the court.

The victory holds a significant personal meaning for Eain Yow, as it not only confirms his qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28) but also pays tribute to the generations of players who have laid the groundwork for the current players. He expressed his desire to repay his seniors for their contributions by striving to become the world's top player within the next two years.

Earlier, Eain Yow secured an early ticket to LA28 after defeating India's Abhay Singh in the Asiad 2026 men's singles squash final. Meanwhile, S. Sivasangari, Malaysia's squash queen, became the second Malaysian athlete to confirm her LA28 berth by winning the Asiad 2026 women's singles gold medal.
