(LEAD) (Asiad) S. Korea wins gold in men's street skateboarding at Asian Games

South Korea's teenage skateboarder, Kang Jun-i, clinched the gold medal in the men's street event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday. At the age of 17, Kang became the first South Korean athlete to win an Asian Games title in skateboarding. He secured a score of 180.85 points in the final at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Japan. The competition was fiercely contested, with two Japanese skateboarders, Toa Sasaki and Ginwoo Onodera, finishing in second and third place with scores of 172.35 and 168.11, respectively.

Skateboarding, a new addition to the Asian Games in 2018, involves riders executing various tricks. The athletes are judged based on the complexity, execution, and creativity of their tricks. The sport comprises two disciplines: street and park. In the street event, participants perform tricks on a course featuring stairs, rails, and other obstacles. Kang achieved a score of 88.45 points in the run section, his third attempt, during the competition.

In the trick section, skaters showcase their individual skills by performing a series of tricks. Despite failing to complete his first two attempts, Kang managed to score 92.40 points on his third try, ultimately securing a total score of 180.85 points.
