[Asian Games] S. Korea wins gold in equestrian dressage individual

In the individual dressage event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, South Korea's Nam Dong-heon claimed the gold medal, ending a 12-year drought for the country in the event. The athlete earned 75.190 points to secure the top spot in the event's final at Equestrian Park in Tokyo. Nam's victory marked South Korea's first individual dressage gold since the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. Additionally, Nam had won a silver medal in the team dressage event on Friday.

China's Yu Jiayi took home the silver medal with a score of 75.050 points, while Palestine's Aleksandra Maksakova secured the bronze with 74.935 points. This win was particularly significant for South Korea, as they had not won an individual dressage gold since 2014. The previous winning streak ended in 2018 when South Korea failed to secure any medals at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, marking the first time the country had gone without a medal since the Asian Games began in 1986.

Dressage is a discipline of horse riding, where riders perform memorized sequences and guide their horses through designated movements. Each dressage movement is evaluated based on the horse and rider's accuracy and execution.
