‘Hari Cuci Malaysia’ sets two new records with 272,390 people, 89 tonnes of recyclables

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2026 achieved two new records in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) with 272,390 people nationwide participating in the event and collecting 89,221.22 kilogrammes of recyclable materials in a single day. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) reported that HCM 2026 took place across 469 locations simultaneously, with the collection of 8,010.19 tonnes of solid waste through cleaning activities and getong-royong initiatives.

Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized that the achievement was not only a success for KPKT but a testament to the efforts of all Malaysians who joined in the nation's cleanliness agenda. He highlighted the strong spirit of gotong-royong that supported the event, which received support from 10,000 schools across the country, with student participation recognized in the Physical Activity, Sports and Co-curricular Assessment.

Nga stressed the importance of involving younger generations to cultivate awareness of cleanliness, waste separation, and recycling habits starting from an early age. He also noted that the event's success should serve as a foundation for strengthening the circular economy and sustainable solid waste management, rather than being seen as a one-day program.
