‘Hari Cuci Malaysia’ sets two new records with 272,390 people, 89 tonnes of recyclables

Malaysia's Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2026 event achieved two new records in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) on September 27. A total of 272,390 people across the country participated in the nationwide initiative, while 89,221.22 kilograms of recyclable materials were collected in a single day. The event took place simultaneously at 469 locations nationwide, alongside the collection of 8,010.19 tonnes of solid waste through cleaning activities and community efforts.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized that the success of HCM 2026 is a testament to the collective effort of all Malaysians who joined forces to improve the nation's cleanliness agenda. He highlighted the strong spirit of gotong-royong (mutual aid) within the community and its potential for long-term behavioral change.

Nga also acknowledged the involvement of 10,000 schools nationwide, with student participation recognized under the Physical Activity, Sports, and Co-curricular Assessment curriculum. He stressed the importance of involving the younger generation in cultivating clean habits and waste separation from an early age.

The HCM 2026 event, which brought together people from various backgrounds alongside government agencies, local authorities, private sector organizations, NGOs, educational institutions, volunteers, and local communities, is seen as a launching point for further efforts to strengthen the circular economy and sustainable solid waste management.

Minister Nga stressed that while setting records in a day is possible, building a culture of cleanliness, waste reduction, and recycling requires consistent effort and commitment to make it a way of life.
