Ghana, Boeing explore regional aviation MRO hub

Ghana is exploring a potential partnership with Boeing to establish a regional Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. This hub would provide technical services to airlines across West Africa and other parts of the continent. The proposed center aims to bolster Ghana's aviation infrastructure, create job opportunities for local professionals, and facilitate the development of the country's aviation workforce through training and technology transfer.

President John Dramani Mahama emphasized that Ghana seeks a comprehensive aviation ecosystem partnership, focusing on skilled jobs, technology transfer, and industrial base strengthening, rather than merely aircraft purchases. The MRO center could help reduce regional airlines' reliance on overseas facilities, shorten turnaround times, and enhance the nation's role in West African aviation.

The talks with Boeing are concurrent with Ghana's efforts to revitalize its national carrier, with potential resumption within 18 months if necessary structures are established. The government's collaboration with Boeing will encompass aircraft acquisition, technical capacity, aviation skills, industrial development, and infrastructure.

A successful MRO hub could position Ghana as a regional maintenance and aviation services hub, driving job creation and knowledge transfer to local professionals.
