General : AKPS Needs World-class Training Academy - Chief Secretary

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has emphasized the need for the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) to establish its own world-class training academy. The academy would focus on producing highly skilled border management officers, including those with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Dr Shamsul Azri highlighted that developing in-house capabilities was crucial for MCBA to face complex border security challenges and operate independently over the next decade. He stressed that the proposed academy aligns with MCBA's plans to transition from a reactive approach to a proactive, smart, integrated, and intelligence-led border control system.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that MCBA's training should extend beyond the training centre, incorporating on-the-job training and real-world operational experience. MCBA has made significant strides in its first 23 months, preventing RM265 million in seizures and leakages, which is three times the amount in 2025. The agency recently sent 436 containers of electronic waste back to their countries of origin through collaboration with various agencies.

The 408 pioneer MCBA officers who completed their basic training today are the first batch to join the public service under the new MCBA scheme, which started on July 1. They will be stationed at the Johor Baru-Singapore RTS Link entry point from October 1, preparing for the agency's full operation on January 1, 2027.
