Gangguan sistem semboyan punca KTM Komuter, ETS lewat 5 jam

Malaysia's Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has revealed that a malfunction in the signalling system between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu caused disruptions to KTM Komuter and ETS services for up to five hours yesterday morning. The statement from KTMB today said the longest delay for KTM Komuter was 230 minutes for train No 2389, while ETS service EP9138 (KL Sentral-Butterworth) recorded a 305-minute delay.

Initial inspections found the fault was due to damage to one of the system components causing short circuits and subsequently slowing down the signalling system, though the cause of the component damage is still under further investigation. The signalling system issue had a domino effect on the movement and schedule of other trains passing through the sector, particularly northbound services, according to the statement.

At the same time, KTMB notified that the multi-lane Rawang-Ipoh Bridge upgrade works scheduled earlier were carried out intermittently, including on the Kalumpang route yesterday and today, involving rescheduling of train services on the affected route. "The aftermath of the signalling system malfunction during the ongoing works further restricted train movement and led to compounded delays for several KTM Komuter and ETS services," the statement added.

However, KTMB said the recovery work was completed by 5.15 am yesterday, and the first KTM Komuter train from Tanjung Malim departed at 5.45 am. According to the managing authority of state railway operations, KTM Komuter and ETS services are now back to normal, but there is a 30-minute delay from the original schedule due to the signalling system fault on the Butterworth route.

KTMB has apologized to passengers affected by the aftermath and offered complimentary full refund tickets to those who choose not to continue their journey due to the disruption, subject to applicable procedures.
