Games-Organisers fend off bed-size complaints in Nagoya

Nagoya, Japan, September 27 - The organizers of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games faced criticism over the size of the beds provided to athletes in container-style blocks. Complaints about cramped rooms and small beds circulated on social media, particularly from taller athletes such as basketball players. The modular units resembled a minimalist Lego city, with wood-lined rooms and compact beds.

The organizers, however, sought to make the accommodation more comfortable by offering a spacious dining hall and a shop for basic necessities. The most frequently requested improvement was regarding bed size, especially for athletes with larger physiques. The organizers explained that ottomans could be used as extensions to increase space, but they acknowledged that clearer communication about their usage could have been provided.

While South Korea had already moved their basketball team to standard hotels, the organizers in Nagoya aimed to utilize existing facilities effectively. They also plan to improve their communication on the purpose and usage of the ottomans to ensure a more comfortable environment for athletes during their stay.
