From Majuli Island To Umrangso Lake, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Shares Must-Visit Places In Assam; What's Special About These Sites

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video on social media highlighting various destinations across the state. Sarma expressed his hope that travelers would visit Assam to immerse themselves in its rich cultural heritage, wildlife, scenic beauty and more. The video showcased Assam's misty hills, lush tea gardens, Brahmaputra River, wildlife, and unique Sattriya culture as well as indigenous traditions.

Sarma began with the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, one of the state's most revered Shakti Peethas, followed by Batadrava Than in Nagaon, associated with Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th-century saint-scholar who founded the Vaishnavite movement in Assam. Majuli Island, located on the Brahmaputra River, is known for its Satras and distinctive cultural traditions. Umrangso Lake and Haflong showcase the scenic beauty of Assam's hill regions.

Panimur is known for its waterfalls and rocky landscape, while Ahom Gallery, Siva Dol, Rang Ghar, and Charaideo Moidams reflect Assam's Ahom-era legacy. The list also includes Lachit Borphukan's Maidam, which commemorates the celebrated Ahom general. Destinations such as Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Jatinga, Mayong, Suryapahar, Hajo, Sualkuchi, Gauripur, and Khaspur offer opportunities to explore Assam's rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and natural attractions.
