Dubai to ban lorries from Sheikh Zayed Road during peak hours from October 1

Dubai will enforce a rush hour ban on lorries traveling on Sheikh Zayed Road and several other major routes starting October 1 as part of efforts to reduce congestion and enhance safety. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, in collaboration with Dubai Police, is introducing these restrictions to optimize the city's transport and logistics infrastructure.

The Al Meydan, Al Qudra, Airport Tunnel, and crossings on Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, and specific residential neighborhoods like Oud Al Muteena, Muhaisnah, and Al Mizhar will be prohibited to lorries from 6 am to 10 pm daily. Furthermore, lorries will be restricted from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road between Ras Al Khor Road and the Sharjah border, as well as Damascus Street, Amman Street, and Airport Street, during peak hours of 6:30 am to 8:30 am, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm to 8 pm.

Emirates Road, a primary transportation artery, will be exempt from these restrictions. The RTA urges truck drivers, transport companies, and freight operators to adhere to these timings, plan their routes in advance, and utilize permitted alternative routes and designated truck rest stops. With 150,000 heavy goods vehicles utilizing the emirate's 16 truck rest stops monthly, these rest areas provide over 1,000 parking spaces.

Dubai's traffic congestion has increased post-summer, prompting the government to approve an 80km motorway connecting Dubai to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, aiming to cut travel times by up to 60% and improve connectivity.
