Dubai to ban lorries from Sheikh Zayed Road during peak hours from October 1

From October 1, Dubai will ban lorries from traveling on Sheikh Zayed Road and several other major routes during peak hours as part of efforts to reduce congestion and enhance road safety. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai Police, will implement this restriction, with Dubai's Emirates Road remaining exempt.

Trucks will not be permitted to use Al Meydan Street, Al Qudra Street, Airport Tunnel, and all crossings at any time. From 6 am to 10 pm, lorries will be prohibited from using Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, and certain residential areas including Oud Al Muteena, Muhaisnah, and Al Mizhar. Additionally, lorries will face restrictions on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, with travel prohibited between 6:30 am and 8:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm and 8 pm.

The RTA and Dubai Police will enforce these truck movement restrictions, which align with peak period traffic regulations. This initiative aims to optimize traffic flow and road safety while ensuring the efficiency of Dubai's transport and logistics network. The RTA encourages truck drivers and logistics companies to adhere to the restricted timings, plan their routes in advance, and utilize permitted alternative routes and designated truck rest areas.

Dubai is currently witnessing an increase in traffic as the summer period ends and authorities strive to expand the road network to accommodate the growing population. The government recently approved an 80km motorway linking Dubai to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, expected to cut travel times by up to 60% and enhance connectivity.
