Dr Wan Azizah wants women to make up at least 30pc of PKR candidates in Melaka

Melaka, September 27 — The principle of justice must remain at the core of PKR's efforts ahead of the state election, according to the party's Advisory Council chairperson, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Dr Wan Azizah emphasized that the struggle was not solely about gaining power, but ensuring every Malaysian received justice.

Speaking to reporters after launching the Melaka Wanita PKR election machinery, she shared the party's commitment to this principle, despite challenges, including the departure of some members.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the MP for Bandar Tun Razak, stressed that PKR members must remain committed to upholding the principle of justice, even as change proved difficult. The party's long experience showed that change didn't come easily, requiring sustained effort and dedication from its members. She urged Melaka Wanita PKR to play a crucial role in garnering voter support and strengthening the party's grassroots spirit.

Dr Wan Azizah expressed hope that women would be given the chance to contest in the state election, with at least 30% of the candidates being women. Meanwhile, Azman Abidin, the prime minister's political secretary, suggested that PKR could make a surprising impact in Melaka if its election machinery was disciplined, well-trained, and committed. He noted that the party's machinery needed to work harder, given that PKR currently held no seats in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.
