Dr Wan Azizah wants women to make up at least 30pc of PKR candidates in Melaka

MELAKA, Sept 27 — Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the Advisory Council chairman of the Party of the People's Accord (PKR), highlighted the importance of justice as the foundation of the party's efforts as it prepares for the state election in Melaka. Dr Wan Azizah, speaking to reporters after launching the Melaka Wanita PKR election machinery, emphasized that the primary objective of PKR is not to gain power, but to guarantee justice for every Malaysian.

This commitment to justice, she declared, is a fundamental principle upheld by the party and its struggle.

Dr Wan Azizah, who also represents the Bandar Tun Razak constituency, underscored the need for PKR members to uphold this principle despite the obstacles they may face, including the absence of some party members. The party's history, she pointed out, has shown that change does not come easily and requires persistent effort and dedication from its members.

In her address, Dr Wan Azizah called upon the Melaka Wanita PKR to play a crucial role in mobilizing voter support and strengthening the party's resolve at the grassroots level. She expressed optimism that the women's wing would be granted the opportunity to contest in the state election, with the aim of having women constitute at least 30 percent of the total candidate list.

Prime Minister's political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin, also present at the launch, suggested that PKR could make a surprising impact in Melaka if it maintained a disciplined, well-trained, and committed election machinery. He stressed the necessity for the party's machinery to work harder, considering that the party currently has no representation in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.
