[Asian Games] Korea wins gold in women's handball, ending 8-year drought

Korea secured the women's handball gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, ending an eight-year title drought. The victory came against host nation Japan, who defeated Korea 27-23 in the final round of the competition. Korea finished the tournament with a perfect record of six wins from six matches, surpassing Japan, who had five victories and one loss.

The Asian Games women's handball event did not include a knockout stage; all seven teams competed against each other once, and medals were awarded based on their final standings in the round-robin stage. Sunday's gold marked Korea's first Asian Games title in eight years, following their wins in 2014 and 2018, as well as their 2023 silver medal finish.

Korea and Japan were the only undefeated teams prior to the final match, which was a rematch of their game at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, where Korea won.
