Adamawa govt reaffirms commitment to environmental hygiene

The Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting environmental cleanliness and individual hygiene through ongoing public awareness campaigns and the enforcement of sanitation regulations throughout the region. Hon. Mohammed Sadiq, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, made this declaration during a sanitation enforcement operation carried out across various parts of Yola on Saturday.

Led by officials from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the enforcement squad visited locations such as Jambutu, Jimeta Bypass, Doubeli, and Mai Doki Roundabout, among others, to assess adherence to environmental sanitation guidelines. After the exercise, Sadiq discussed the matter with journalists. He explained that the sanitation task force was comprised of two teams - one focusing on Yola North Local Government Area and the other concentrating on Yola South.

Sadiq expressed appreciation for the residents in areas where substantial compliance was observed, urging them to maintain the practice and stressing that increased participation demonstrated a growing public awareness of the importance of a clean environment for public health.

However, the Commissioner also voiced concerns over the behavior of certain residents and traders who continued to disobey environmental regulations despite previous warnings. Some traders were seen openly displaying and selling goods during the sanitation exercise in defiance of government directives. Sadiq cautioned that continued violations would not be accepted.

Speaking alongside Hajiya Safiya Mohammed Abubakar, the State Comptroller of the Federal Ministry of Environment, and Dr. Umar Usman Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Environmental Protection Agency (ADSEPA), Sadiq's remarks were echoed. They commended residents for their cooperation during the enforcement operation, describing the level of compliance as encouraging.

The officials called upon citizens to continue supporting government policies and programs aimed at maintaining a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. They also praised the media for its ongoing role in raising public awareness and promoting environmental sanitation activities across the state.
