A month without answers: Families of missing Malaysians told Nepal search may soon end

After enduring over a month of uncertainty, the families of Malaysians unaccounted for after Nepal’s recent flood disaster are preparing for the possibility that search and rescue (SAR) operations may soon come to an end. During a recent meeting at Wisma Putra, the families received briefings on the procedures associated with death certificates and the impending transition from rescue operations to recovery.

S. Sankara, father of a missing Malaysian, explained that while the search and rescue efforts were ongoing at the time, the government is anticipated to conclude the rescue operation phase before shifting to recovery activities. The four-hour meeting included updates from multiple agencies on various aspects of the SAR operations, including DNA sample management and legal documentation.

Despite the lack of news, family members like Adura Masood, whose husband Dr. Mohd Padzil Daros remains missing, expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the search teams.
