436 e-waste containers re-exported, 578 more next month

The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has re-exported 436 containers of electronic waste (e-waste) to their respective countries of origin, according to the agency's director-general, Shuhaily Zain. These re-exports took place over two phases this year and were carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, police, environment department, and port authorities.

AKPS announced that a further 578 containers are planned to be re-exported in stages beginning in October, with the agency aiming to re-export all 1,259 containers by the end of 2026.

During the closing ceremony for the AKPS basic training course, Shuhaily Zain reported that the agency recorded seizures worth RM265.89 million in 2026, almost three times the value recorded in the previous year. E-waste and drugs were identified as the main types of seizures and leakages intercepted by the agency this year. In terms of drug smuggling trends, Zain highlighted that stringent controls through targeted screening at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 have been effective in curbing repeated attempts to smuggle drugs, particularly cannabis flowers, which are often masterminded by foreigners.

Regarding future recruitment plans, Shuhaily revealed that AKPS is targeting the filling of 13,721 positions across 122 entry points nationwide. The recruitment process is being carried out in stages.
