Yuna Nishimura with a 63 leads low scoring at LPGA in Arkansas

Rogers, Arkansas — Yuna Nishimura posted an impressive front and back nine score of 8-under 63 on Friday, propelling her to a one-stroke lead in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship as the LPGA Tour returned to its regular season after the Solheim Cup. The Japanese player, now in her fourth year on the LPGA Tour, finished the front nine with three consecutive birdies at Pinnacle Country Club.

A birdie-eagle finish sealed her one-shot lead over Yu Liu. Nishimura expressed her intention to maintain her lead as she prepares for the next round, stating that she aggressively focused on her final putt and it went in. European players from the victorious Solheim Cup team continued to dominate the leaderboard, with Celine Boutier and Charley Hull both scoring 65, while Lottie Woad shot a 66.

All eight members of the European Solheim Cup team broke par. Auston Kim and Andrea Lee topped the leaderboard for the U.S. team with a score of 67. Hull, who previously expressed enthusiasm for the Solheim Cup victory, mentioned that competing in the LPGA's final stretch feels less nerve-wracking without the adrenaline from the European team's triumph.

Hull also altered her hair color from blonde to brunette after the Solheim Cup, with her feelings about the new look shifting from love to hate to love again. The tournament is one of two 54-hole events on the LPGA schedule, leaving Nishimura or any other golfer to seize the opportunity for a larger gap on Saturday. Twenty-five players were at 66 or lower, while 99 players in the 144-player field broke par.
