USA awards contracts for nearly all of $400 mln in military aid to Ukraine, excluding Patriot missiles – media

The U.S. administration of President Donald Trump has pledged to allocate nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine, as approved by Congress, according to Reuters. However, the package will not include Patriot missile systems, despite relentless attacks on Ukrainian cities by drones and ballistic missiles from Russia. As of the beginning of this week, $307 million worth of the $400 million total had been awarded in contracts, with the administration planning to finalize commitments for the remaining $93 million before the fiscal year concludes on September 30.

Spare parts for armored vehicles are already being delivered this month, with the rest of the aid scheduled for delivery by October 2029, coinciding with the end of Trump's term in office. Although the remaining funds could theoretically be spent by year-end, they will expire if not officially contracted by then. The military package does not encompass Patriot missile systems, amid the ongoing conflict between the USA and Iran and the prolonged war in Ukraine, which has significantly depleted global stockpiles of these missiles.

Ukraine has persistently requested the supply of additional Patriot missiles to bolster its defense.
