UK judge stops deportation of Nigerian man

A judge in the UK has prevented the deportation of a Nigerian man, Tunde Alao, sentenced for fake driving licence fraud. The Upper Tribunal's Priya Solanki ruled that Alao does not pose a serious threat to British society, allowing him to remain in the country. Alao, who entered the UK in 2004 or 2005, spent two years and seven months in prison for the fraud.

He was granted limited leave to remain in the UK in February 2021, following his return from seven years in an Indian prison. Alao has worked part-time as an office assistant and client co-ordinator since October 2023 and has actively participated in community events. His boss testified in court, praising his good conduct and contribution to society.

The judge concluded that Alao's re-conviction risk was low, and measures could further reduce this risk if he engages in appropriate interventions.
