The Journal reported the rejection was based on Trump's private skepticism that Iran would meet his demands. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi disclosed the peace plan through Qatari mediators, stating a deal would trigger a seven-day countdown to reopen the strait and a pause in regional fighting.

If the US were to agree, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and hostilities would end on all fronts, including Lebanon. Trump expects to resume bombing after the November congressional elections, as per the Journal.
