Trump rejects Iranian peace proposal, WSJ reports

US President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and cease regional fighting within seven days, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The proposal was conveyed by Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, through Qatari mediators at the United Nations. Iran stated that if there was genuine US interest in reaching a deal and reopening the strait, everything would be prepared.

However, Trump was reportedly privately skeptical that Iran would meet his demands. The US and Iran have been engaged in positive and constructive discussions through the mediators, but Trump expects to resume bombing after the November congressional elections, the Journal reported. Diplomatic efforts have gained global significance as the seven-month-long conflict has disrupted oil flows and involved regional and world powers.
