Study material on Narayana Guru to be included in school and college text books: Madhu Bangarappa

Study material on the life, writings and social contributions of Narayana Guru will be included in school and college textbooks, announced Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Saturday. Commending Narayana Guru during his Jayanti celebrations in Mysuru, Bangarappa emphasized the collective responsibility of society to pass on the legacy of this great figure, who advocated for human values, to future generations.

Describing Narayana Guru as a spiritual leader and social reformer, Bangarappa highlighted that education was crucial for people to live with dignity and respect. Born in Kerala, Narayana Guru famously advocated for "Making schools bigger and the pomp of temples smaller," while also striving to convey that education fostering awareness was more valuable than blind beliefs and superstitions.

K. Harish Gowda, MLA for Chamaraja Assembly constituency, added that Narayana Guru worked tirelessly to eliminate discrimination, untouchability, and superstitions from society, striving to build an egalitarian society based on the principle of "One caste, one religion, one God." He also noted that Narayana Guru's primary objective was to construct schools, prioritizing the acquisition of knowledge above all else.
