Akorino community backs Kindiki as Mount Kenya spokesperson

On September 25, 2026, a faction of the Akorino community voiced their support for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to serve as the spokesperson and representative for the Mount Kenya region. Speaking at a community gathering, Akorino Chairperson Samuel Thion’go highlighted Kindiki's unique position that could potentially unite communities within the region.

The elder representatives from Gikuyu, Embu, and Meru communities stated that they had formally appointed Kindiki to advocate for the interests and aspirations of the wider Mount Kenya region. Thion’go emphasized that the Kikuyu elders, including Njee Muturi, had endorsed Kindiki as the spokesman, and the Akorino community agrees with this decision, believing it to be a positive move towards promoting unity.

Thion’go made a strong assertion that even though the Akorino community may not possess significant political clout, it still holds the potential to influence the nation's leadership. He urged Kindiki to collaborate with other leaders and communities across Mount Kenya, leveraging his senior position in the Kenyan government to act as a unifying force. The Akorino representatives expressed their well-wishes for Kindiki and encouraged him to work alongside "like-minded leaders and communities across Mount Kenya."

This endorsement came in the wake of similar support from elders across multiple councils, including Kiama Kia Ma, Kikuyu Council of Elders, Njuri Ncheke, and Kiama Kia Muembu, all endorsing Kindiki as the region’s spokesperson. The Akorino representatives clarified that their endorsement was not aimed at targeting any specific group but was driven by a singular goal: fostering unity in Mount Kenya.

They emphasized their commitment to bringing together people from diverse backgrounds within the region, with Kindiki being the individual they currently endorse for this purpose.
