Stone pelting on Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express cracks windows of 3 coaches, case lodged

On September 25, 2026, a stone-pelting incident occurred on the Nagpur-Mumbai CSMT Duronto Express (train number 12290) around 8:27 pm. The stones or other objects were thrown from outside the train, striking the windows of coaches A-1, B-2, and B-5, causing them to crack. Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the incident.

Upon receiving information about the incident at 8:46 pm, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel conducted a search in the Borkhedi-Sindhi section, covering the stretch between Km 803 and Km 796. They also checked the nearby areas of Borkhedi and Brahmani villages, questioning the Police Patil and local residents.

However, no suspicious person or concrete evidence was found during the search. A case has been registered against an unknown person, and investigation is ongoing. According to Indian Railways, stone pelting on trains is a criminal offense under Sections 153 and 154 of the Railways Act, 1989. In the previous year, 1,698 such cases were registered across the Indian Railways network, with 665 arrests made.
