Sivasangari, Eain Yow keep gold medal hopes alive

Malaysia's squash champions S Sivasangari and Ng Eain Yow have secured their spots in the finals of their respective singles events at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. The achievement brings hope for the nation's gold medal prospects at the competition. Sivasangari, currently ranked 5th in the world, defeated Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 in the semi-finals held at the Nagoya Kinjofuto Arena.

The win brings her closer to defending the gold medal she claimed at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. She will face Indian player Anahat Singh, ranked 17th globally, in the final tomorrow. Sivasangari's head-to-head record against Singh favors her, with two wins at the 2026 London Squash Classic and the 2025 British Open. However, the Asian Games tournament also serves as a pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, adding pressure to her upcoming match.

In the men's singles event, Ng Eain Yow, ranked 18th worldwide, eliminated Pakistan's Noor Zaman 11-7, 11-2, 11-4. Yow will meet Indian player Abhay Singh, ranked 24th globally, in the gold medal playoff. The men's singles final is set to commence at 3pm, while the women's singles final is scheduled for 4pm tomorrow, according to Malaysia time.
