Seeing my father break down in tears over my condition was heartbreaking – Amputee

Oluwatosin Jegede's life took a dramatic turn when she was born with Type 3 Tibial Hemimelia, a rare condition leaving her without a tibia bone in her right leg and accompanied by polydactyly in her right lower limb. The news of her condition and the need for amputation came as a heartbreaking blow to her parents, who were initially hesitant but eventually accepted after a government-sponsored free healthcare initiative, the Tinubu Free Healthcare Programme, offered a possible solution.

The amputation procedure, deemed necessary for her long-term health, took place in 2006, leaving Oluwatosin with a prosthetic limb and a new lease on life. The emotional rollercoaster that followed, from the initial tears of her father to the fear and sadness of embracing her new reality, was a testament to her resilience and unwavering faith.

Despite facing social challenges and insensitive remarks, Oluwatosin leaned on her family and friends for support, emerging stronger and more determined than ever to live life on her own terms.
