Rangers place 3B Josh Jung on the 10-day IL with a broken right hand

The Texas Rangers have placed third baseman Josh Jung on the 10-day injured list due to a broken right hand, sustained on Friday during a game against the Minnesota Twins. The injury occurred when Jung was struck in the hand by Ryan's pitch in the first inning. Despite initially playing through the hand injury and scoring in that inning, Jung was later replaced by a pinch hitter.

This season, Jung has batted .299 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs, and an .827 OPS in 104 games. After recovering from a left calf strain that kept him out of action all of August, Jung returned to the lineup and posted a .341 batting average (15-for-44) in his subsequent 12 games. To accommodate Jung's absence, the Rangers recalled left-hander Robby Ahlstrom and catcher Logan O'Hoppe from their Triple-A affiliate, Round Rock.

Additionally, they optioned right-hander Gavin Collyer to their Arizona Complex League affiliate. Ahlstrom has made 42 relief appearances for Texas, posting a 6.08 ERA over 37 innings. O'Hoppe, traded to Texas from the Angels in July, appeared in 10 games during his first stint with the team. As of Saturday, the Rangers were tied with Houston for the American League West lead, though the Astros held the tiebreaker advantage.
