Qatar showcases smart, sustainable transport plans at InnoTrans 2026

Qatar showcased its ambitious plans for a smart, integrated, and sustainable transport system at the InnoTrans 2026 international transport technology exhibition, which concluded in Berlin last Friday. The four-day event attracted over 3,000 exhibitors from 59 countries, presenting the latest innovations in rail technology, railway infrastructure, public transport, vehicle interiors, tunnel construction, and smart mobility.

At Qatar's pavilion, the nation highlighted its commitment to developing an advanced and eco-friendly transport ecosystem aligned with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. A key emphasis was placed on the Ministry of Transport's strategic plan from 2025 to 2030, aimed at creating a cohesive, secure, adaptable, and sustainable transport network capable of meeting the country's future mobility demands.

Visitors to the pavilion could also explore Qatar's strategy for autonomous vehicles, its shift towards electric public buses, and the construction projects supporting the electrification of public transportation. Furthermore, Qatar unveiled a comprehensive public transport plan designed to enhance connectivity among various transport modes, promote increased usage of public transit, diminish reliance on private vehicles, and contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

The participation allowed Qatar to exhibit its progress in transport infrastructure while engaging with global corporations and technology providers to explore emerging smart mobility, railway, and sustainable transportation solutions. On the final day of the exhibition, Assistant Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Eng. Abdullah Saif Al Sulaiti, met separately with representatives of prominent international companies participating in InnoTrans 2026.

Eng. Sulaiti held discussions with a delegation from Deutsche Bahn, led by Managing Director for International Markets and Consulting Stefan Geisperger, an Italian National Railways (FS Group) team headed by FS International CEO Luigi Corradi, and an Egis delegation. The meetings aimed to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation in smart and sustainable transportation and railway infrastructure, focusing on the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and best practices, as well as the potential integration of cutting-edge technologies in the transport sector.
