Pengampunan bersyarat Najib: Anwar tegas pertahan prinsip banteras rasuah

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the government's clear stance that Malaysia cannot reciprocate immoral practices or personal enrichment through state wealth. Speaking at the 3 Generations Appreciation Dinner for Perjuangan Legacy, Anwar stressed that the monarchy's decision linking Najib Razak to the case is not a hindrance for him to provide legal opinion and advice based on laws and national interests.

However, he reiterated that the government must not succumb to bribery and the practice of "sakau" state funds. Anwar addressed several issues involving institutions that have been under public scrutiny, such as the Haj Trust Fund, Felda, and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), emphasizing that individuals accused of stealing state wealth must be held fully accountable.

Tabung Haji, Felda, 1MDB, and those "sucking" state wealth must answer. Regardless of the outcome, the government must not divert resources to save the nation, Anwar concluded. Najib, 73, is currently serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, after being found guilty in the RM42 million embezzlement case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd.

On September 18, Sultan Ibrahim approved a conditional pardon for Najib to serve the remaining prison time for the SRC International case under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine and compliance with set conditions. The meeting also featured Najib's wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Deputy Prime Minister and Religion Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Attended by over 2,000 members of the Islamic Youth Malaysia (ABIM), the Malaysia Culture Heritage Preservation Association (WADAH) and the National Islamic Students Union (PKPIM).
