PAS logo an option for Perikatan in Melaka election if RoS suspension remains, says Takiyuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) may field PAS candidates in the Melaka state election if the coalition faces a Registrar of Societies (RoS) suspension, according to PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. The logo choice is not a significant concern for the coalition, which will determine its approach based on the situation before the election, Takiyuddin stated.

PAS has no issues contesting under its own logo, and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia could also participate under its symbol. Electoral alliances do not require members to use their respective logos, as seen in the 2018 general election where DAP, PKR, and Bersatu candidates contested under the PKR symbol. Takiyuddin emphasized that using another party's logo does not pose any legal issues.

The RoS suspended PN activities on September 23 under subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, following a complaint by Bersatu. PN has also been given a notice to explain why its registration should not be canceled. The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on September 23, leading to the upcoming state election. In the previous Melaka state election on November 20, 2021, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 seats, Pakatan Harapan secured five, and PN took two.
