EFCC recovers N84m, returns money to Edo businessman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin has returned N84 million to Edo State businessman, Ekhahon Abraham, after seizing the funds from a woman named Anita Eborome. The EFCC announced the recovery on its official X account, explaining that the money was seized during an investigation into a land transaction.

Abraham had paid Eborome N84 million for a piece of land in Edo State, measuring 115 feet by 135 feet. Following the payment, Abraham built a fence around the property, which was later demolished by someone claiming to be the land's rightful owner. Abraham then sought a refund from Eborome but was unsuccessful, as she allegedly became evasive.

The EFCC's investigation revealed that Abraham transferred the funds to Eborome, who subsequently misused the money for her personal gain. Acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa'ad Hanafi, presented the recovered funds to Abraham, emphasizing the commission's commitment to combating fraud and preventing criminals from profiting from illicit activities.
