Nursing mother, 27, shot dead in Bawku West

In the Bawku West District of Ghana's Upper East Region, a nursing mother of a three-month-old baby, Koyraga Nbeduma, was tragically shot dead by two unidentified gunmen. The incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, around 8:30 p.m. as Ms Nbeduma and another woman, Barikisu Ali, were returning to Widnaba after purchasing corn from Azupupunga, a community in the Tilli Electoral Area.

Upon their return, the two women were attacked by the gunmen. Ms Ali managed to escape and seek safety, leaving behind her bicycle. The baby, who was just three months old, was found by the roadside, while Ms Nbeduma's body was discovered about 200 meters from the road in a nearby maize farm. The Zebilla Police received the report and transported the deceased's body to the hospital, where Nurse Inusah Lukman confirmed her death.

The family is devastated, with Ali Sulemana, a family member, calling it a shocking and devastating loss, stating they had not anticipated that the woman would leave home and never return. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and the police are conducting investigations to identify those responsible.
