No active COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh, says Health Minister

A woman named Lavanya from Gangavaram village in Darakonda panchayat in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, Andhra Pradesh, passed away on September 25, 2026, after giving birth to a baby boy. She had gone into labour on Thursday night and delivered the child, but she later became unconscious and her condition worsened. The woman's village was cut off from a nearby primary health centre, approximately 6 km away, due to flooding and a washed-out bridge.

Villagers attempted to take Lavanya to the Darakonda Primary Health Centre, but were unable to reach the facility as several streams along the route were overflowing. The main road leading to the centre was also affected by heavy rainfall and damaged by the washed-out bridge. Despite searching for alternative routes, no vehicles were available due to the persistent heavy rain and poor road conditions.

The newborn baby boy was reported to be in safe condition. The district's officials had received prior warnings about the potential flooding of streams and waterways, and had been instructed to set up control rooms in every mandal to monitor road connectivity and essential services. In neighbouring Parvathipuram Manyam district, the Collector ordered the relocation of about 158 pregnant women affected by the floods to nearby hospitals and health centres.
