Afrobeats musician Osasike Uwuigbe, known professionally as Hammerboi, has revealed that his songs composed in the Benin language have garnered attention from listeners beyond his region, thereby showcasing Benin culture to a global audience. Hammerboi's decision to primarily sing in his native tongue stemmed from his affection for his culture and a desire to safeguard and promote the language.

He explained to Saturday Beats, "It was not an impulsive choice I made one day; it came naturally to me, and my motivation was rooted in my love for the culture and my wish to promote the language." Prior to his music career, Hammerboi was a full-time music producer for various artists. His journey into creating indigenous-language music was a deliberate shift from his previous pursuits, as he aimed to create something unique for the people of Benin.

Hammerboi's early exposure to composing music for his church choir in childhood sparked his interest in writing songs in his native language. The artiste noted that the appreciation for his music transcended linguistic barriers, as people were drawn to the emotions, melody, and energy of his songs rather than understanding the lyrics.

He emphasized that music is a universal language and that the connection people feel is more about how the music resonates with them. Hammerboi's expanded audience, which includes individuals from other parts of Nigeria and various countries, has also led to an increased curiosity about Edo culture among his foreign listeners. Many of these global fans, even when unable to comprehend every word, have expressed their appreciation for the emotions and passion conveyed through his music.

Some of these international followers have requested translations of his songs and videos, demonstrating a desire to delve deeper into his cultural heritage. Hammerboi hopes that through his music, he can inspire young people to embrace their indigenous languages and take pride in their roots, regardless of their geographical location.

While Edo language remains central to his music, the artiste is open to incorporating other languages when his creativity demands it, acknowledging that his native language will always be the core of his musical expression.
