KAP Academy graduates secure AFRIFF screening

Two short films crafted by young Beninese filmmakers who completed the KAP–SOPA Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp have been chosen to be featured in the Students’ Film category at the upcoming Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). Founding Director of AFRIFF, Chioma Ude, announced this opportunity during the graduation ceremony and the premiere of three student films at the KAP Film Village and Resort.

Ude expressed high expectations for the students’ work and assured the 20 graduates that two of their films would be screened at the festival, thus broadening the graduates’ platform to reach a larger audience of filmmakers, programmers, producers, distributors, and industry professionals. The intensive 12-week Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp, organized in collaboration between KAP Film and Television Academy and the Republic of Benin's audiovisual agency SOPA, provided the participants with training in filmmaking theory, practical production, and other essential aspects of film-making, culminating in the creation and screening of three original short films.

AFRIFF, founded by Ude, aims to showcase African and Diaspora cinema through various film screenings, industry programs, and professional development initiatives. The upgrade will enable the selected graduates to experience the festival environment, connect with filmmakers and industry professionals from across Africa and the Diaspora, and transition their work into a wider film ecosystem.
