Lagway throws 2 touchdown passes to help Baylor hold off Colorado 23-13 in Big 12 opener

DJ Lagway, the Florida transfer playing for Baylor, threw two touchdowns in his return to the team's lineup as the Bears secured a 23-13 victory over Colorado in the Big 12's first match-up of the season. Lagway's first touchdown came with 9:02 remaining on the clock, providing the Bears with a crucial lead. The quarterback, who had missed two games due to an ankle injury, completed 19 of his 39 passes for 221 yards and an interception.

Baylor's defense played a key role in the win, as Colorado's "go-go" offense failed to sustain drives effectively. The Buffaloes finished the game 3 of 14 on third down and utilized two different quarterbacks throughout the match. In contrast, Baylor benefited from a solid performance from their running game, which averaged only 3.3 yards per carry.

Colorado's quarterback change at halftime, from backup Isaac Wilson to Zach Wilson, brother of New Orleans Saints quarterback, did not significantly alter the outcome. Julian Lewis was the only other Baylor player to contribute to the passing game, finishing 11-of-16 for 75 yards. Elliott Arnold contributed to the Colorado offense with field goals of 46 and 24 yards.

Colorado's star wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. suffered an apparent upper body injury late in the second quarter, leaving him unable to continue playing. Moore was hit by Baylor linebacker Travion Barnes during an incomplete pass and was carried off the field by team personnel. The injury kept Moore out of the game for the remainder of the match.
