Labour Minister wants SOEs to help shape new public pay system

Labour Minister Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum called on Chief Executives of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to actively participate in developing Ghana's new public sector compensation system. The government aims to create a sustainable, locally tailored system based on extensive stakeholder consultation, not a foreign model. Agyekum urged SOE CEOs to openly share their perspectives, concerns, and suggestions to help shape an effective and sustainable compensation framework.

Speaking at the opening of a stakeholder engagement organized by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) with SOE CEOs, Agyekum emphasized that the government seeks input to build consensus around proposed reforms and ensure the new system reflects Ghana's realities. The FWSC assured SOE boards that their mandate would not be affected by the transition to the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC), and that board members would continue to assess their organizations' business models and submit evidence-based remuneration proposals.
