The diplomatic initiative, proposed by Iran and transmitted through Qatari mediators to the United States at the United Nations General Assembly, could potentially reopen the strategic waterway and halt hostilities within seven days, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Araghchi stated that the deal would trigger a seven-day countdown to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a temporary pause in regional fighting.

If the US shows genuine interest in reaching a deal and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, all conditions are reportedly in place, Araghchi said. Iran is not willing to make any concessions on its nuclear program rights, including uranium enrichment or shipping enriched uranium abroad, as confirmed by a senior Iranian official to Reuters.
