Iran believes the United States is poised to take the lead in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtsch. The country claims that Washington has been informed of a "seven-day plan" through Saudi Arabia, and the decision now rests with the United States. Araghtsch stated that the US can accept the plan and open the strait at the end.

The plan involves the US fulfilling certain pre-established commitments from the June framework agreement, which should take four to five days. However, a US official initially said the matter was not urgent and that they were having positive and constructive talks with Iran via a mediator. Shortly after, the Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had rejected the Iranian plan, stating he expected to resume airstrikes on targets in Iran following the US midterm elections in early November.

Trump had previously threatened Iran with mass attacks without carrying them out. Trump also shared a map of the strait on his Truth Social platform, labeling it as "Trump Strait." The June framework agreement was supposed to secure the opening of the strait, which is crucial for exporting oil and liquefied gas. However, the agreement quickly fell apart amid ongoing mutual attacks.

Iran's Foreign Minister now claims that the seven-day plan will lead to talks with the US over a final agreement, which must also address Iran's controversial nuclear program. In the past, Tehran has demanded that the US release frozen Iranian assets, end the war on all fronts, lift the blockade on Iranian ports and ships, and not interfere in the country's internal affairs.
