Hari Cuci Malaysia 2026 targets 200,000 participants and 28,000kg of recyclables in a single day, says Nga Kor Ming

KUALA LUMPUR, September 26 — The nationwide Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2026 event aims to engage 200,000 individuals and collect 28,000 kilogrammes of recyclables in one day, according to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. HCM, which began in 2024, has seen growing public involvement. Speaking after the event's launch in Pasar Taman Sri Gombak, Nga emphasized that the target represents more than just record-breaking, but the broad participation and strength of the cleanliness movement being cultivated.

As of 9 am, over 95,000 people had registered online, excluding school students. The event has previously broken records, with 58,007 simultaneous participants, 4,645 tonnes of waste collected in a day, and continuous operation from 8 am to 8 pm. Last year, more than 100,000 people participated simultaneously, and over 27,600 kilogrammes of used cooking oil were collected, setting a record.

This year, the Education Ministry is a strategic partner, engaging 10,000 schools nationwide. The government is also implementing the 9R approach to solid waste management, encouraging responsible resource use from a young age. HCM is part of the Madani Government’s public cleaning reform agenda, including the implementation of Community Service Orders for littering offences.

Nearly 15,678 compounds have been issued for littering, and 599 individuals have been ordered to perform cleaning work by courts. Additionally, nearly 1,000 shopping centres will provide recycling collection facilities this year. Nga stressed that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility of the community to keep Malaysia clean and prosperous.
