Hannah Yeoh suggests standardising routes to reduce road closures for KL running events

Kuala Lumpur's Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, is urging running event organizers to standardize their routes in order to minimize disruptions caused by road closures. Speaking after officiating the Mega Cleaning Programme for Hari Cuci Malaysia at the Batu Muda PPR, Yeoh suggested that organizers stick to pre-set distances for their routes, such as three or five kilometers.

This standardization, she argued, would enable better coordination between road users and event organizers, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of both parties. The minister emphasized that her proposal isn't meant to hinder such events, but rather to ensure their proper execution without causing significant traffic congestion.

With over a million vehicles entering the city daily, Yeoh highlighted the urgency of organizing these runs efficiently. She also pointed out that organizers who require alternative routes could consider less congested areas, while continuing to utilize existing locations like those used for the Car Free Day programme. "Kuala Lumpur is a city that needs to be well organized," Yeoh concluded, "I don't want people wasting hours waiting for roads to reopen."
