Ganesh Visarjan 2026: Pune bids Bappa adieu amid cheers, chaos, enduring traditions

Scientists stationed at India’s Maitri research station in Antarctica brought the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi to the icy landscape this year. Through their dedication, they crafted a Lord Ganesha idol entirely from snow, marking the festival thousands of kilometers away from home. Anirudh Dhar, a doctor at the Maitri station, shared a video of the unique celebration on Instagram, showcasing the meticulous process of shaping snow into an idol of Lord Ganesha.

Following the idol's creation, the group performed an aarti (ritual worship) before carrying it out for a sustainable "eco-friendly immersion." The scientists also enjoyed a meal of modaks, a traditional sweet associated with Lord Ganesha, as they continued to carry out their scientific research in one of the world's most remote and challenging environments.
