Explosion at suspected illegal firecracker unit in Bihar’s Araria: Police

Late Friday, a powerful explosion at a suspected illegal firecracker manufacturing site in Araria district, Bihar, left several individuals feared injured, with the police still awaiting confirmation of casualties or injuries. The blast transpired at a residential house in Muslim Tola, located under the jurisdiction of Bhargama police station, resulting in significant damage to the building and instilling fear in the surrounding area. Families from adjoining houses hastily evacuated once the explosion occurred.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar disclosed that an extensive search was conducted for the missing individuals at both private and government hospitals; however, no trace of them was found. The police officers reported that a massive blast took place while explosives were allegedly being transported in sacks inside the residential house belonging to a man named Mohammad Akhtar.

The intensity of the explosion was so immense that it caused damage to the building, consequently causing panic in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses indicated that at least six people who were inside the house sustained injuries, with some possibly being in critical condition.

The bomb disposal squad and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) promptly reached the scene, and an investigation was initiated. The superintendent of police informed HT that a case against the missing family would be filed following the incident.
