El-Rufai paying price of irresponsible leadership as Kaduna gov – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has revealed that former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, is currently suffering the consequences of his irresponsible leadership and poor governance during his tenure. Sani criticized El-Rufai for his lack of respect for the rule of law, stating that he arrested and imprisoned numerous individuals while in office.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani reacted to El-Rufai's recent assertion that he had been deserted by friends, family, and former colleagues who once supported him. Currently detained under court orders following accusations of corruption while serving as governor, El-Rufai has been incarcerated for approximately 200 days.

Sani noted that, given his own four-year prison sentence, he cannot compare the hardships of imprisonment. Sani acknowledged that losing friends is natural when one is out of the public eye but argued that El-Rufai is experiencing the repercussions of his past actions. Sani expressed sympathy for El-Rufai but emphasized that those in power must recognize that their time in office is fleeting.

He cited the period between 2015 and 2023, during which he observed significant misgovernance, irresponsible leadership, and the targeting of opponents through statecraft in Kaduna State.
