BMA, SARS, Mozambique move to ease goods traffic at Lebombo border

The Border Management Authority (BMA) and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) are collaborating with their Mozambican counterparts to enhance the flow of commercial goods at the Libombo Border Post in Mpumalanga. Both parties have acknowledged the persistent issue of long queues of trucks at the border crossing. Mozambique has already dispatched officials to aid in the processing of these trucks.

In a joint media statement, the BMA and SARS confirmed the significant congestion currently experienced by trucks approaching the border. Mmemme Mogotsi, the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the BMA, explained that the congestion along the Lebombo corridor is a multifaceted problem influenced by high volumes of commercial traffic, limited infrastructure, operational conditions on both sides of the border, and various traffic management and compliance factors.

Mogotsi highlighted that the processing of trucks at Kilometre 7 is intended to be a joint effort between the South African and Mozambican authorities. The effectiveness of this arrangement, however, relies on the availability and deployment of personnel, systems, and operational procedures from both countries.
