Anwar awaits Loke's resignation letter

Shah Alam - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is currently awaiting Transport Minister Anthony Loke's resignation letter. During a recent meeting with reporters, Anwar briefly mentioned this fact. Loke's decision to resign as Transport Minister was announced after the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting on September 19th, citing concerns over the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Following the CEC meeting, Loke admitted he would resign from his Cabinet position after returning to Malaysia from China, where he had been. Other DAP ministers and deputy ministers will continue to hold their positions in the Federal Government. Anwar had previously advised Loke to reconsider his resignation and expressed his intention to discuss the matter further with the DAP secretary-general.

Anwar also emphasized that the DAP should not cede to pressure from those with political motives to destabilize the unity government. Despite these concerns, Anwar respects Loke and the DAP's long-standing principles against kleptocracy and corruption, which have complicated their discussions with the Pardons Board. The Federal Territories Pardons Board recently granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, provided he pays a RM50 million fine.
